Modern carriages with new design in Tbilisi Metro

In the scope of the project aimed at renewal and modernization of Tbilisi Metro’s rolling stock, TTC continues modernization of Metro carriages with support of Tbilisi Municipality City Hall.

In 2017, the Company will offer to its costumers’ modern carriages with new design. Rolling Stock Refurbishing Plant owned by the TTC did all relevant works. In the scope of modernization, design and size of driver’s cabin was changed and equipped with new control system; color, exterior and inertia design of the carriages were also changed; LED lightings, external and internal CCTV cameras were installed; special monitors and USB plugs were also put in place for additional comfort; old contact type systems were fully replaced with new and modern microprocessor systems.

The Mayor of Tbilisi Mr. David Narmania accompanied by his Deputy Mr. Irakli Lekvinadze, Director of TTC Mr. Nugzar Tcheishvili and Director of Rolling Stock Refurbishing Plant Mr. Gela Dzidzikashvili visited Rolling Stock Refurbishment Plant.

According to the Mayor, this is a first train, which underwent full modernization and will become operational before new Metro station will open.

“Today, new train was tasted for the first time. Carriages are modern and very comfortable. I am convinced, that costumers will appreciate and enjoy comfortable commute. There are plans to gradually modernize whole Metro fleet” – state the Mayor. 

8 new, modern and fully refurbished carriages will be transporting Tbilisi Metro passengers in 2017. TTC already received 4 units, which are ready for exploitation. Rest of the carriages will be completed for the begging of the October.  

In additional to aforementioned number, TTC fully refurbished 16 other carriages.  There are plans to renovate 12 more units before the end of this year.
