Kakha Kaladze met with the representatives of the Congress of the Council of Europe

The President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia, Kakha Kaladze- the Mayor of Tbilisi met with the Vice President of the Congress of the Council of Europe, Xavier Cadoret  -the President of the Chamber of Local Authorities’ of the Congress of the Council of Europe and Andreas Kiefer –the Secretary General of the Congress.

The parties discussed the agenda of the relations between the Council of Europe and Georgia and emphasized the successes achieved through cooperation.

Speech was focused on the decentralization reform and the issues of greater involvement of women in self-government processes.

“To my mind 2019 is an important date for both Georgia and the Council of Europe. This year we mark the 70th anniversary of the Council of Europe and the 25th anniversary of the Council of Europe Congress. This year we also mark the 20th anniversary of Georgia's accession to the Council of Europe. During this time we have had and have been successful cooperation in many areas. These days, the government of Georgia will approve a new, ambitious strategy of decentralization, where the Congress will also play a key role in its implementation and this will be a continuation of existing practices of successful cooperation”-said Kakha Kaladze.

Kakha Kaladze thanked to the Congress of the Council of Europe for Georgia's support.

Andreas Kiefer thanked to the Mayor of the Capital for active cooperation. He wished a success to Georgia over the forthcoming chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and promised support.

Marite Moras – the Head of the Department of International Relations and Development Projects of the Council of Europe, Beka Davituliani and Tamar Taliashvil- Members of Tbilisi City Municipal Assembly who is also the Vice-President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe attended the meeting.

On initiative of Kakha Kaladze-the Mayor of Tbilisi the conference “the Role of the Local and Regional Congress of the Council of Europe in Developing Georgia's Local Democracy” dedicated to the anniversary of Georgia's accession to the Council of Europe will be held at the King Tamar Hall in Tbilisi tomorrow.
